 New Orleans, LA
 | |
                | The National WWII Museum offers interactive, fast-paced “Virtual
Field Trips” that are videoconferenced LIVE into classrooms
                  across the country.

Guided by a museum educator, students analyze maps, photographs,
artifacts, posters, speeches, and songs as they explore the
chronologies, strategies, motivations, and outcomes behind these
fascinating chapters of WWII history. All videoconferences last
one class period and include pre- and post-program curriculum
                  materials.

                | (Video Conferences are listed under "V") The mission
of the Ocean Institute is to inspire all generations, through
education, to become responsible stewards of our oceans. Our
goal is to help open new worlds to your students, and in doing
so, stretch their imaginations and show new possibilities for
                  their futures.

Our Vision is to be the world's best experiential ocean educational
organization. All Ocean Institute programs are designed to maximize
immersion, inspire deep commitment to learning and spark curiosity,
questions and future discovery. The programs have received the
inaugural Walter Cronkite Award for Excellence in Maritime Education
from the National Maritime Historical Society and the Sea Education
Program of the Year from the American Sail Training Association.

The Ocean Institute offers an number of distance learning programs
with marine biologist instructors for K-12 that feature live
interaction with Pacific Coast ocean sea-life.

Program Not everyone can visit the USS Arizona Memorial personally.
The Witness to History Videoconferencing program provides students
and educators on both a national and international level with
a unique and invaluable distance learning opportunity dedicated
to the history of December 7, 1941.
Through firsthand accounts, artifact examination, and expert
historical interpretation the events surrounding the Pearl Harbor
                  attack come alive for students.

The Witness to History video teleconferencing program is funded
by the Pacific Historic Parks (PHP), a non-profit organization
dedicated to financially supporting the National Park Service's
educational and interpretive initiatives. The program is sponsored
by both the National Park Service (NPS) and Pacific Historic
Parks. These two organizations have vested interest not only
in telling the story of Pearl Harbor, but in preserving the
cultural and historic significance of the USS Arizona.

 Participation is FREE.

                | The distance learning
initiative of the Philadelphia Museum of Art uses ISDN and IP-based
videoconferencing to enable virtual tours of the Museums
collections. This allows real-time interactions with the Museums
expert staff, so students and teachers can explore the fascinating
world of art without ever leaving the classroom.
All lessons are adaptable for grades K through 12 and can be
tailored to meet your students needs. Lessons can either
provide a general introduction to art and artists from diverse
areas of the collection, or feature more specific periods and
                  concepts in art history.

Please let us know what is best suited for your curriculum,
and we will do our best to tailor your lesson accordingly.

                   http://www.twice.cc/read | |
                | TWICE (The Michigan Two
Way Interactive Network) annually organizes a special celebration
                  of the national NEA
                  event Read
Across America by providing the opportunity for schools
in the continental United States to connect using two-way interactive
video to both read to and be read to by another class.
The purpose of this celebration is to have students reading
to students. What they read is your choice i.e., a Dr. Seuss
book (this event is in honor of his birthday), a book about
your community, a poem or an original story your class wrote.
Just pick something you and your students love!

This project involves matching classrooms with other schools
in the nation. We hope to match schools with schools outside
their state, which may mean long distance fees for ISDN connections.
Connectivity fees are the only cost to this project and individual
schools are responsible for the long distance charges.

                | SERC's distance learning programs, all supported by teacher-developed
curriculum, bring Smithsonian science into classrooms and homes
across the country. By participating in videoconferences or
Electronic Field Trips, you have the opportunity to talk with
expert scientists and educators at the Smithsonian Environmental
Research Center and possibly venture into places where on-site
visitors seldom are permitted to go.

Go behind the scenes of science with SERC's interactive videoconferences
on topics related to SERC research. Each informative videoconference
lasts between thirty and sixty minutes, during which time students
will participate in hands-on science demonstrations and interact
                  with SERC staff.

Each videoconference comes with curriculum aligned with Maryland
Science Content Standards to use in the classroom before, during,
and after the videoconference. SERC is currently offering videoconferences
on a wide variety of topics.

 SERC Electronic Field Trips
                  (EFTs) are content-driven programs
designed to offer students in K-12 classrooms learning opportunities
                  they would not otherwise experience.

During these live, interactive, satellite broadcasts, students
interact with scientists through live demonstrations, phone
calls, and e-mail. This interactivity, along with teacher-developed
curriculum, makes EFTs a highly effective educational tool.
